Dahl's work is excellent
Dahl's work is excellent. I always cringe when I see that one of his works has been turned into a movie or cartoon. This is no exception. My reasoning: I had seen that Disney and Spielberg were working together on making a live/cgi version, and I wanted to see the 'original' before that came out. Yes, I know that Disney and Spielberg make great flicks. And I always wondered what would have happened if Disney actually got to work with Spielberg. the project should be interesting. Can't say about Disney/Spielberg's creation. This however is something unique. The story line is fun, the two main characters are well developed and well drawn. The dialogue is excellent and well voiced. Now, the animation is very late 70s and early 80 but it should not have any effect on the kids While the ... Dahl's work is excellent. I am not going to give the story line away. You are going to have to see it for yourself, before the Disney/Spielberg versions. Yes it is rated General and maybe could be frightening to small children. ages 3-4 the the other ages will enjoy it., There are great action scenes, and there are some modify fight scenes. Again,however, they are ,if you will, modify for the little ones. the BFG's other giant friend are a bit daft and mean, but it isnot mean in a bad way. Their characters are well crafted, and their attitudes are very much like common every day giants. Would I buy it? Yes, buy all means. I have a lot of Dahl's book to movie that I did not know I have. If you are a movie freak like me that definitely Yes, buy it, before it disappears. If you have your kids, definitely buy it. A rare and sparkling jewel of lost animated treasures
Lacewood studios, most famous for their stopmotion wind in the willows has produced many lost animated classics including "the railway dragon." This is a good example of the many translations of author Roald Dahls amazing childrens books to film. From Henson's Witches, Danny Devito's Matilda and more recently Tim Burtons Charlie and the Chocolate factory, each film keeps or strays from the story. Lacewood's the BFG is a very true rendition and has (from an animators perspective) nothing short of astounding design sense. The backgrounds and character designs fit together with the book like tea and cake. The only off-putting thing about the whole production is possibly the songs but this is a matter of opinion (not to mention time has passed since the film was made) Although it is a kids ... He whisks her away to "Giant Country" where she learns of the nasty giants who gobble up children each night. Sophie decides they must be stopped, so, she and the BFG go to the queen to get help. This is a wonderful story for anyone who wants to believe in fairytales. The unintelligent language of the BFG is so funny, it's almost cute. There is even a funny song about flatulence.
