real lizard leather, not embossed (can bend it slightly and see the hinges in the leather flex and the scaley bits stay firm, which you wouldnt see on embossed. whether its croc or another lizard i can't say). a bit too shiny for my tastes, but a little rubbing alcohol deglossed it, and then oiled up nice. well made, will likely replace buckle, but otherwise great.
