Best mix headphones on planet Earth! Up until last week, I was using some Sony MDR-V700's since 2004! They were the best thing ever and they fell apart 5 times so I have wired, glued and taped them back together so it was just time for some new phones. Incredibly, these babies make it very easy to allow you to actually separate major frequencies. It forces you into a sensible style of blending or juxtaposing tones. NOTE: These phones ARE NOT for chilling out and listening to an iPod. There is no built-in equalization to accentuate bass, mids or trebles. These are mixphones, meaning they are quite flat sounding, They are only letting you hear the sound without the final "glaze" you choose to put on it. If you start out absolutely flat, you can create your own peaks and valleys to create a soundscape that come strictly from your ear, not from the phones themselves. The fact that you have 3 modes in which to preview your music is a plus. The 3 modes are STEREO, MONO and MIX. The mix is squarely for dealing with muddied middle tones. You won't have booming bass or screechy treble or even a "hollow" muffled effect from these headphones, Everything is flat enough for you to begin to construct a true-to-sound production. You build your own harmonic dynamics with a frequency range of 18Hz-25kHz so trust me when I say you will hear stuff in your live mixes / samples that you can't hear in other headphones. It's a strange experience, it's like almost you're "seelng" the attitude and sonic personalities of the sound waves, where it resides and how it's layered...if it meshes, mixes or separates. I really can't explain it - you have to hear for yourself. You don't really notice this until you are hours into it and you have had a chance to hear a wide range of instruments/voices and samples. It's just weird, but good weird! For their size (these things are huge-ish) they are very light-weight and extremely comfortable. I wear them for hours on end and never have sore ears after continued use. They are built solidly and come with 2 removable 1/8" stereo cables, one cable is straight 3 meters, and the other is a 1 meter coiled cable. I produce all types of music, acoustic and electronic. 5 Stars.
