About this product

Product Information

A quest, a war, a ring that would be grounds for calling any wedding off, a king without a kingdom, and furry little 'hero' named Frito, ready - or maybe just forced by the wizard Goodgulf - to undertake the one mission that can save Lower Middle Earth from enslavement by the evil Sorhed. . . Luscious Elf-maidens, a roller-skating dragon, ugly plants that can soul kiss the unwary to death - these are just some of the ingredients in the wildest, wackiest, most irreverent excursion into fantasy realms that anyone has ever dared to undertake.

I read the book MANY years ago...

I bought this for my son who is going out to sea for a while. It is a funny read. I am still quoting some lines from it for 40 years now. Anyone who has read Lord of The Rings, NEEDS THIS BOOK!

  • Good parody, but dated

I read "Bored of the Rings" twenty years ago and thought it was a scream. I've been looking for a copy off and on since then. I finally found that there are always copies on ebay, and bought one. I reread it, and it is still a good parody, if you grew up in the 70's. Sadly many of the references won't mean anything to many people under 45 or maybe even 50. I've had to look a few up myself. But if you are in that age group, or if you would like to see good examples of both how to do a parody and how not to do one(be careful with the cultural references) this book is pretty good. The character names can be fun (Legolam and Giblet are two of my favorites) and the cultural references are clever, even if they're a little obscure today. If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings and appreciate a ...

  • Good, but nor great

I am a serious LOTR fan, but I always like to explore the lighter side of my obsessions so I bought this book. I had high expectations, but the book didn't quite live up to them. It was funny at parts but not as much as I expected, however I don't think I got all the jokes either. In a way I thought his book was almost sacrilegious, so many beloved characters and classic scenes were destroyed for a cheep laugh. It is short and funny, a good read for someone who read LOTR but didn't care enough to read much more Tolkien. Or for a hardcore like me who is looking for a change of pace.

  • Literally, a Laugh every sentence from cover to cover!!

Written by two of Harvard (and Later National) Lampoon writers, this book should be a classic of American literature. It takes the trilogy of the Rings by Tolkein, and sets it afire with Humor. It is definitely a much easier read with much of the same imagery only slightly twisted. I much enjoyed "Bored of The Rings" over the trilogy it attempts to parody.
