Old Chen EL34-B with PSVANE Tubes Sounds Great
The OldChen EL34-B single-ended amplifier has been around for many years and can come in different configurations and with different tubes. This review is based on the one that I purchased July 7, 2023 on eBay from seller Nobsound. My EL34-B came with PSVANE tubes; 6SN7, EL34C, and 5U4G. This is a great tube combination from PSVANE and is a great value. The 6SN7 and the EL34C seems to have been tested and matched. I can't hear any ringing or hum. The amp itself is very well made, very solid. Switches, knobs, and connectors are top quality. Setup was a breeze (tubes fit well with a solid connection) and sounded great right out of the box. I might by a second one just to get a backup set of the PSVANE tubes, which sold separately are more that the whole unit. My setup is a Fluance ... there is a lot of hum noise on both channels.
I am using a Reisong A10. I bought a new oldchen EL-34B amp of the same type and compared them with each other. The Oldchen EL-34B sounds more powerful, but disappointingly hum is audible on both channels. Maybe it's like AC harmonic noise? This noise makes it unsuitable for listening to music on a quiet night. I think the oldchen EL-34B's hum noise is $50 cheaper than the Reisong A10.

Really surprising sound from such an affordable amp
Great introduction into world of tube amps and the price won't break the bank. The build is nice quality but not to the level of the $2k+ super amps, but nothing to be ashamed of showing off either. This amp comes very well packed, and even tubes had a separate box, so everything arrived safely. Very easy to set up; just pop in the tubes, add supplied a.c. cord, connect speakers, and your source and you're ready to go! On my unit I can hear a very slight hum if I place my ear within a couple of inches of the speakers but anything farther and it's essentially silent. Be aware that tube amps run HOT so you need to allow for plenty of ventilation. Ok, for the sound, it's really good: excellent sound stage, highs are clear without being harsh, very decent low end and not dark or muddy...almost ... Great introduction into world of tube amps and the price won't break the bank. The build is nice quality but not to the level of the $2k+ super amps, but nothing to be ashamed of showing off either. This amp comes very well packed, and even tubes had a separate box, so everything arrived safely. Surprisingly good, rich warm sound.
I bought this Amp as an entry level into the world of valve amps with the intention of later modifying it and upgrading the design, but to be honest its got really great performance right out of the box. The design is simple and clean, with a rich warm sound. Its not massive on power output but the depth of sound makes up for it. I'm running the amp with a pair of old 6 ohm mission mini monitor speakers and I'm really happy with the results. Nice natural sounding tube amplifier.
I've had several tube amplifiers in the past. This one is very neutral sounding. Not as powerful as a KT88 of course but it has a nice neutral warm sound. Good spacial separation. Not outstanding but very good. Super simple design. No pcb in my unit. Nice. If you're looking for a good intro tube amplifier this one will do for sure.
