    What a ride

This book covers first wife Vivian & J Cash's four daughters relationship thru Cash's life. Covers friendships with Willy Nelson, Kristofferson, Elvis and many more who Cash worked with over his career. Truth of June Carter relationship from mistress to wife thru her own addictions and death are well covered. I especially liked perspectives from Roseanne Cash, John Carter and many others close to the Cash clan. Author even mentions first wife Vivian's visit regarding her book which was the last time she would see him just prior to J Cash's own death. in depth look at the real J Cash up to his death. No fluff for fans, simple yet hard truth of a great talent with much comment from those closest to him. .

  • Very interesting and well-written!,

This book is very interesting and well- written. It is a balanced look at the subject, warts and all. It is not a musical biography. There is no technical analysis of the various singles and album tracks. The bio does not read like a textbook. I will look for other works by this author.

  • The title is okay. Didn't care for his picture on cover with cigerette hanging out of his mouth, although it was his constant companion.

Really enjoyed the in-depth writing about Johnny, especially his early years. Also, all the people connected to him one way or the other through the years.

  • Best biography on Cash, hands down.

Probably the best biography on the Man in Black. Very detailed and the gray areas get sorted out, as there are great notes in the back that help explain some of the ambiguities we've learned about over Cash's long career, such as, where and when did Cash write Folsom? I've heard criticism about how much time or how many pages Hilburn devotes to Cash's addiction to drugs, but I found that extremely helpful in understanding Cash and the effects addiction had on his career. In some ways it's very sad, in others it's inspiring, but through it all, I felt like I knew Cash a lot better and came away with a great deal more respect for not jus the entertainer, but the man himself.

  • Great read!

Great read! Moves quickly from Johnny's youth to his music career. Well- written, well-documented info. Nice photo section. Broken down into enjoyable segments/ chapters. I look forward to reading it every time I pick up the book!
