May be the best slow speed black and white film availble today.
Over the years, some good printers have stayed away away from Black and white slow speed film- that is B+W film 125 ASA or less. The common problems with films of this nature are typically too much contrast and/or too little shadow detail and latitude. It is hard to find a good film/developer combination in this class that will give you everything that you need to get good results in a variety of conditions. Out of all the films like this available, Rollei Retro 80's shows more promise than anything I have used in a long time-back when Kodak Panatomic-X was still available. The first time I developed this film, I was able to get acceptable results at Box speed, and I am confident that I can improve on this by either overexposing and underdeveloping ((Which is the basic principle of Ansel ... I highly recommend this film for either traditional darkroom printers who are experts in their craft, as well as newcomers who want to try a slow film to scan and print digitally.. It shows more promise than any of the new slow films that I have seen lately.
