Type & Tell! lets you use your Odyssey2 as a talking device -- just type in words and the system will "speak" with The Voice speech and sound effects module. After inserting the cartridge, you'll see six rows of twelve blocks set against a solid background. Since each block represents one letter, simply type a word or two on each line, press enter and listen to the speech through the speaker of the peripheral.
You can also type multiple words (the screen can hold a maximum of 72 characters) to have your Odyssey2 announce short sentences. A cursor allows players to edit their phrases before hitting the "enter" button, and the screen can be wiped clear of text by pressing "reset." While there is no game included with Type & Tell!, the manual suggests some alternative uses for the program, including Garble, Sound Waves, Super Star and War of Words.
Garble involves making words and sentences using only single letters (an example given is U-R-A-Q-T), while Sound Waves has you trying to come up with sound effects for different objects. Holding down a key will fill an entire line with one letter, thereby creating a different sound. Super Star encourages budding writers or movie directors to use different sounds to record their own adventure, and War of Words is a contest to see who can extend a sentence to the end of the screen. Players take turns entering one word until the sentence is complete.
