Hopefully you get this before anyone else makes the same mistake as me. First off, here's the most general summary of the problem for those who just want to skip to the point: It has no driver (CD for installation or program from Canon website that can be downloaded for installation) for the scanner. The CD that you see in pictures is Windows only. Now that's all fine and dandy if you're operating Windows, BUT if you're buying for any version of Mac as I am, the driver makes the difference in the quality. Someone from Canon customer support told me when we couldn't figure out my photo quality and text resolution problems (with ALL types of scan... photo... auto... document... custom scan... jpg, pdf, quality, EVERYTHING) that the driver allows your machine for the Canon scanner to use the Cannon "ICM" (or IC something) for the image quality. But because there's no driver for Mac, THE SCANNER USES YOUR MAC ICM WITHOUT EVEN TELLING YOU AS MUCH. So nomatter what you do to tinker with the settings, it will never be what it is intended to be. Therefore, for Mac users, the product is actually a DOWNgrade from previous models, and I was referred specifically to the CanoScan 210 to replace it (which will now cost me extra to buy new, when I was looking at several used models for cheaper before). So that's all you need to know to avoid this one. Hopefully whoever's reading this and was considering this for their Mac, I got to them before it's too late. Supplemental stuff now: This is perhaps one of THE most annoying things that can happen with any electronics purchase. Why? Because it's deceptive. Just because something CAN work on a Mac machine, it DOES NOT mean that the quality is going to be as worthwhile or what it was intended to be. I've seen the same things with USB adapters for video game controllers, and now a vastly more important product. UBER-annoying! And you won't even know unless 2 conditions are true: (1) You have high enough standards for your images and work to care about top quality in the first place, and (2) You bother to call customer support and get to the bottom of the issue. And THEN on top of that, you have to hope that you're either protected by the ebay moneyback guarantee or have done so within the 15 day return policy (which thankfully I did). But the bottom line is that ALL sellers should say this VERY clearly in the description. They should know about this issue just like USB adapter people should know how the quality is affected on a Mac. And if they don't know and state it, then you're just waiting for things to go wrong and to find out way too late. It's probably not QUITE fair to rate this any less than 3 stars or answer "no" to the setup, resolution, and accuracy questions here, but I figure that if I don't, who will? Until Canon makes it clear that Mac is off-limits despite being functionally operable on those systems, their product deserves some extra negatives. So if you're a Mac user like me and happen to have stumbled across this product like I have thinking it would be fully functional when it doesn't, DO NOT hold back just because it can work fine for another operating system. Canon and sellers alike will only be more explicit about the functionality when enough people complain. So despite the fact that the item should get all 5 stars and a yes on everything in its ideal state, it's not like that for our part of the population that has and depends on Macs. No breaks for them.Read full review

I was originally gifted a DC 220 by a friend. It is so convenient to learn and use for an average non-techie like myself. It is fragile however, and when its prompts give a warning, it's serious. For example, jostling the camera while filming will disturb its function; disconnecting power source while a function is in progress will upset internal functions for good. The camera will still work, that is, film, thereafter, but no longer does the display give status until either the disc is near full, or the battery is short of charge. I especially like it in spite of having to change discs after a max of about 50 minutes, that I don't need a computer to do anything. I can take the finalized disc to a dvd player and watch it. You can edit what you filmed; you can switch to stills mode and take single shots with a memory card function. It has functions I haven't used that would make the very good film taker pleased. Because people are so computer oriented today, the input to computer used by other cameras is favored. You can also connect the DC 220 to computer in the standard wired method provided, and computer ap disc is provided as well. It's just not for me. The computer is more a hindrance for me, so I like being independent of it. To be able to just remove the disc and play it in a standard dvd player is the best thing for me. It comes with case and straps and all things that a cam buff would expect to either operate via computer or indepently as I do. I dropped my first cam and its internals were damaged. It can still function plugged to AC current but not by battery anymore. My used-purchased replacement was damaged during filming by jostling, and then I pulled the battery mid-function and lost my display of status. It's a very good product I would highly recommend, and have now bought a third one as a backup, but unfortunately it was shipped with the same damage I created in my second camera, but it does work very fine for my purposes. It is lightweight and carry it in my palm, strap arouund the back of my hand when I'm expecting to film, and can activate it to film in about 15 seconds from shutdown mode. I have filmed with a 220 now thorugh the South Seas: Tahiti, Thailand and Australia as well as Paris, Rome and Madrid, Dominican Republic, Barbados and Acapulco. A most faithful companion indeed!Read full review
No power cord needed as power comes to it via the USB connection. Easy to load drivers unlike older models I have had. It's very thin making it truly mobile and comes with an upright stand to make it operational even on it's very thin side. Great Job Canon!

Works with Windows 10 and it was my main reason to buy it. It is easy to connect only with one USB cable for power and communication. The scanned colors and resolution are good.
