    Good product

The book is great but the lengthy shipping was less than desirable, yes it was free but very slow and package travelled hundreds of miles out of the way.

  • For the novice and the experienced!

This intelligent and well-written book covers many aspects of mead-making. It starts with the history of mead and its place among other fermented beverages in human history. The process of converting honey to mead is nicely described. At this point, most impressive is the author's explanation of the chemical process which takes place during this conversion. Next, the author covers the various ingredients used in mead-making. Apple-cinnamon mead, anyone? Schramm then goes on to explain what ingredients work well together, and wraps it all up nicely with several suggested (and award-winning) recipes from meads and cysers to melomels and metheglyns alike. As a 15-year veteran homebrewer of beer, I found this book a great inspiration to take the next step into making mead. I read the book from ...

  • A scientific approach to mead making.

I have made fruit wines, cider and mead for some time. The information (on the internet) regarding mead making has been a little meager, often quoting procedures I was really didn't want to follow (ie. boiling the honey, stating only one kid of yeast was acceptable to use, etc). This hasn't really bothered me as I like to experiment quite a bit, but I did wonder about these references. Then some time ago I ran across some articles from Mr. Ken Schramm on the internet. He talked about doing things a little different and I felt his suggestions were more similar to my thinking. So I bought this book to see what else Ken Schramm had to say. Mr. Schramm and his associates have scientifically studied honey, nutrient requirements, yeast requirements, and the variables that are required knowledge ...

  • The Compleat Meadmaker by Ken Schramm (2003)

If youve ever made your own cordials to give as presents or your into distilling your own drinks, this is an easy book to follow. It has many recipies from basic mead (wine made from honey) to fruit meads. The instructions are easy to follow and easy to do. If youve ever wanted to try your hand at making mead, this is the book to get. I was a bit intimidated untill I started reading this book. It starts by saying from the first batch you might throw out till you become an expert at it and they arent kidding. I cant imagine you could mess up with as well as this book is written. Go past what your making now and be a Viking for a while! Make Mead!!!

  • Full of Information

This Book is for the all levels of mead makers from the novice to the expert. Telling in great detail how to go about making ones batch of mead your own and not from a recipie that you found online. I have been making mead for a little over a year now and it is the greatest hoby that i have done to date. I have a local brew shop which specializes in mead making and the brewmaster at the shop is even impressed at the quality and variety of mead that i am producing at a beginer level. I give this book a excellent due to the ammount of foresight and knowledge within it's pages. Happy home brewing!
