  • Informative and useful

I found this book to be very informative and useful. The book covers building expenses from the ground up including what to expect to pay for local building permits. Also discusses how to select property. I was considering putting in a basement, but learned that this doesn't give you the best bang for your buck. Also pointed out that the house exterior and kitchen are the places where it is easiest to run over budget. Additionally, talked about picking a design that maximizes use of space and even how to bring efficiency into the structural design, such as plumbing and electrical, in order to minimize labor cost. For someone like me, who has no actual building/contracting experience, I thought the book was well worth the money.
