    Very Compelling

    I received a copy of this book shortly after the loss of my father a few years ago. I wish I had read it before his passing but the book was so enlightening and provided answers to some of the comments he made to me during his final days. When a friend of mine told me that her mother was dying, I gave the book to her. She told me that she loved it and it helped her tremendously! Now that my mother is in the dying process, I purchased this copy to give to my sister. Hopefully, it will provide her with some insight to the dying process and the "gifts" that are given to the people who provide the care during those last days of living. This book is quite an eye opener and I would recommend it to anyone.

    I found an article online regarding this book, "Final Gifts", during the time my sister was dying with colon cancer. The author of the online article suggested the book for anyone going thru such a situation. I immediately ordered the book. When faced with the fact that her time with us was coming to an end...I read the book. Her husband found the book lying on the sofa and he read it. Her daughter-in-law found the book lying in the den and she read it....passing it along to her husband (my sisters' son). We were all around her when she died, and we all feel that because we read this book...we were all more prepared for what we had to go thru. It didn't make the process any easier...but it gave us direction and insite into something that we never thought we would have to do. My ...

    My mother-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer October 2005, and we were told she had days to live. She was 81 years old, a delightful and generous person - never complained about pains - had her own business until age 80 and continued working there part-time until she became ill. We lived 2 1/2 hours away - my husband came over at least once a week to take his mom to the grocery store, beauty shop, change the linens on the bed, etc. I made the trip once/month. We both came over August 19, 2006 because she had fallen out of bed and lay on the floor for several hours before her husband found her. He was 87 and surprisingly he got her back in the bed without both of them laying in the floor. I never went back home - my husband went back and forth to care for our pets and take ...

    Wonderful! Everyone would benefit from reading this!

    This is a wonderful book that I have refered many of my patients and their families to as a resource to help them when someone they love or they themselves are diagnosed with a terminal illness. I have recieved nothing but positive feedback from the patients and family who have responded. They have found it extremely comforting and helpful. For a book on end of life I find that surprising, but I had read it myself prior to recommending it and agree completely. The book is documentation of a qualitative study done by hospice nurses, however my patients often get something much deeper out of it that one can't put a price on. Piece of mind and comfort about a very special but often feared and poorly understood part of life that we all face at somepoint...death. This book is something ...

    Final Gifts

    Insightful and compassionately written. I bought a copy for myself and our daughter who works with elders and some elders who are in their last physical stage of life. I learned much from the author's observations and snipets of those who died while in hospice care.
