      I bought this book for genealogy reasons. The book is about the families of Cades Cove in Tennessee before 1936, when the area became part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I found a lot of Tipton family history in the book, and, since I descend from the William Tipton of Cades Cove, I loved the book! This book would be great for anyone searching for info on their Cades Cove ancestors. Some of the other families mentioned in the book are: Oliver, Shields, McCaulley, Cable, Lawson, Burchfield, Gregory, Myers, Sparks, Powell, Post, and Foute. A chapter on community life in Cades Cove covers subjects: homelife, religion, education, communication, and Cades Cove in the Civil War. There are lots of photographs. In addition the book has records of Cades Cove land grants, a land sales ...
