Molokai is an Excellent Historical Fiction Book

This is an excellent historical fiction book. The author has researched Molokai, Hawaii history and has woven it beautifully into the story. The characters are believable and capturing. Readers of this book will learn very much about the problems that lepers faced during this era in history when they were banished from regular life with their families and forced to live in a leper colony on the island of Molokai. I would highly recommend this historical novel!

  • This was a great novel

This was a novel that I could hardly put down. As I have aged, I have had a tendency to skip to the back of a book if it is moving too slowly, but with this one, I was sad to see it end. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Rachel Kalama and her journey through life. There were enough factual details and references to show the author's diligence in following historical realities, but not so much as to make it tiresome in detail. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Hawai'i, the tragedy of those who suffer from leprosy, or just the fascinating and sometimes heartbreaking story of a lifetime. You aren't bogged down with details or references, simply allowed to follow along with Rachel through her lifeime, and I really think you will enjoy it as much as I did.

  • It's a good book

It's a BOOK! Not a design element. I paid only $5 for it,and the book is old. Totally readable, but I cannot go on and on about a $5 book.

  • Wonderful book!

Hawaii. Leprosy on Molokai. I lived in Hawaii when it was finally decided leprosy was not contagious, and the lepers were allowed to leave and rejoin their hometowns. I think it is by far one of the best books I've ever read. An easy read!
