About this product

Product Information

Where the Red Fern Grows is a beloved classic that captures the powerful bond between man and man's best friend. This edition also includes a special note to readers from Newbery Medal winner and Printz Honor winner Clare Vanderpool. Billy has long dreamt of owning not one, but two, dogs. So when he's finally able to save up enough money for two pups to call his own--Old Dan and Little Ann--he's ecstatic. It doesn't matter that times are tough; together they'll roam the hills of the Ozarks. Soon Billy and his hounds become the finest hunting team in the valley. Stories of their great achievements spread throughout the region, and the combination of Old Dan's brawn, Little Ann's brains, and Billy's sheer will seems unbeatable. But tragedy awaits these determined hunters--now friends--and Billy learns that hope can grow out of despair, and that the seeds of the future can come from the scars of the past. • A timeless classic that every child should read

This is a must read for every child especially in todays jumbled up world. The simplicity and appreciation for the hard times of yesterday and how much a bond between a boy and the love of a dog can make us all appreciate the simple things in life. It was read to me when I was in the fourth grade and now that my son is in the 3rd grade I got it to read to him at bedtime. The only thing is that he can't understand why I'm usually sobbing within three minutes of reading. I don't know if it takes me back to my childhood or whether I just know how special this entire book is and what is coming. Please do yourself a favor, no matter how old or young you are, and lose yourself in the mountains and the dreams of a young boy.

  • Where the Red Fern Grows

This book is the story of a young boy, and the love between he and his dog, and the respect of his family. I stumbled across this book years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I shared it with my son , when he was old enough to appreciate it, and bought it for his son (my grandson), now that he's of age. This book is one of my favorites.
