About this product

Product Information

Now a major motion picture starring Jude Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson, and Maggie Smith. When Ravi Kapoor, an overworked London doctor, reaches the breaking point with his difficult father-in-law, he asks his wife: "Can't we just send him away somewhere? Somewhere far, far away." His prayer is seemingly answered when Ravi's entrepreneurial cousin sets up a retirement home in India, hoping to re-create in Bangalore an elegant lost corner of England. Several retirees are enticed by the promise of indulgent living at a bargain price, but upon arriving, they are dismayed to find that restoration of the once sophisiticated hotel has stalled, and that such amenities as water and electricity are . . . infrequent. But what their new life lacks in luxury, they come to find, it's plentiful in adventure, stunning beauty, and unexpected love.

  • Thought provoking with some nice humor!

I saw the movie which prompted me to buy the book. Not a lot of time for reading these days, but I've started the book. After reading the first few pages, I realized I was really resonating with the author's style of writing. I am really grateful to know this book.

  • Loved it, Enchanting, neurotic, sad, sweet, happy tears, a travel adventure

Wow this movie packs a lot of emotional bang, with a sort of action adventure for the over 50 set, which BTW I am not. But I loved it. Enchanting, neurotic, sad, sweet, happy tears all tied up in a travel bonanza. You can almost taste India this movie is so visually effective. Perfect entertainment for any age. I cried. You'll find out where. Bring tissues. Never a dull moment. A film to be bought, cherished and watched in regular rotation. In case I didn't mention it... I loved it. Cheers, Max Rainet A movie lover for life.
