About this product

Product Information

For the calculus-based General Physics course primarily taken by engineers and science majors (including physics majors). This long-awaited and extensive revision maintains Giancoli's reputation for creating carefully crafted, highly accurate and precise physics texts. Physics for Scientists and Engineers combines outstanding pedagogy with a clear and direct narrative and applications that draw the student into the physics. The new edition also features an unrivaled suite of media and on-line resources that enhance the understanding of physics. This book is written for students. It aims to explain physics in a readable and interesting manner that is accessible and clear, and to teach students by anticipating their needs and difficulties without oversimplifying. Physics is a description of reality, and thus each topic begins with concrete observations and experiences that students can directly relate to. We then move on to the generalizations and more formal treatment of the topic. Not only does this make the material more interesting and easier to understand, but it is closer to the way physics is actually practiced.

  • Excellent Introductory Physics Text for Engineers

This is an ideal text for engineering students who are just starting out, despite the fact that on the surface, it appears to be just like every other college freshman physics textbook. It has, however, a wide variety of discussions on topics that don't normally appear in intro books (such as the section on astrophysics and particle physics). While it is quite long (around 1000 pages) and way over priced, it is an excellent resource and is ideal for those serious about their science education. On another note, as an instructor who uses this text for teaching, I would offer a request to the authors to change the types and formatting of the standard problems which they have at the ends of every chapter. I would suggest adding more multiple choice questions, as well as questions which ...

  • Physics for Scientists And Engineers...Great Success!

I hate Physics with a passion. But someone jacked my old book so I bought this one. I only buy textbooks from Half! Great price, horrible book. You should probably buy this and start reading over the summer if you're going to get anywhere in this class.
