About this product

Product Information

Kathleen DesMaisons started a diet revolution with her runaway bestseller, Potatoes Not Prozac, a startling new health and nutrition program for people who are sugar sensitive. The response was phenomenal: 170,000 copies sold and more than 5 million hits on her Web site over the past two years. Now, in this new book, The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program, which is based on a careful balance of protein and carbohydrates, Dr. DesMaisons provides detailed, workable, meal-by-meal instructions on how to implement her breakthrough food plan and make it a part of your daily life. Sugar-sensitive individuals require not only a different diet but a different approach to diet--and that's exactly what Dr. DesMaisons offers here. Writing with the deep understanding and personal experience that comes from being both a clinician and a recovering sugar addict herself, and informed with all the latest scientific research on what makes a person sugar sensitive, Dr. DesMaisons explains exactly how you can free your mind and body from the tyranny of sugar and shake off the exhaustion, mental fogginess, and mood swings that sugar dependence causes. Revealing the various ways sugar addiction affects both men and women, and the unique methods for healing it, Dr. DesMaisons encourages you to custom-tailor her simple program to fit your lifestyle, and includes information on: - How to fully integrate a "slow-carbs not low-carbs" strategy into your diet - How to shop efficiently and economically for staples, treats, and emergency foods - Why regular protein is essential and how to get it with every meal - What to eat when a sugar craving strikes - How to get the nutrition you need on the run--even at fast-food restaurants - How to find an exercise program you'll enjoy - 10 breakfasts you can prepare in a flash - Menus and recipes for every lifestyle and taste Practical, hands-on, and reader friendly, The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program gives you the guidance you need for every phase of healing your sugar sensitivity, from chaos to stability to lasting recovery. By finding and sticking with the protein/carbohydrate balance that's right for you, not only will you look and feel better, but you'll actually resolve the problems that have made you lose control of your eating. This book will transform your life by helping you eat right--starting today!

  • This is a good book for 15% of the population

Carbohydrates = Bad Old news, right? The thing that sets this book apart is the author’s contention that some of us (perhaps 15% of the population) are genetically and metabolically different from everybody else in the way we handle and process carbohydrates. For these “Sugar Sensitives” as she calls them, every aspect of the food ingested produces a markedly different and more powerful reaction than it does for everybody else. This book is written specifically for them. Refined carbohydrates can be a hideous and insidious health risk, as you may know, since you are reading this essay. If you are looking for a clear explanation of why it is so much worse for some people than others, this book may help you. My top pick for diet books is “The Zone” but this one fulfills a more ...

  • You really should try this...it works!

This book can change your life. If you are always looking for your next sugar fix, i.e. eating sweets all day long, hiding chocolate in your desk or kitchen, raiding the vending machine every afternoon, never feeling full, but always feeling tired, this book is for you. Break your addiction with a simple plan. I have never felt better, and have tried lots of other diets. I was considering hypnosis to cure my sugar habit when I found this book. My husband and children are following it too and we all feel great. It is amazing the power sugar can have on your life and your biochemistry if you are sugar sensitive. I urge you to give this a try. It is simple, and effective. Good Luck!

  • Great book for those struggling with moods.

I checked this one out of the library and decided to buy it. Very good plan for lifestyle changes to overcome sugar. I don't want to lose weight but if I follow the plan I feel great and have more energy.

  • Not a sugar Addict's Recovery program

This book simply changes one form of sugar to another form. They tell people to eat potatoes which are full of sugar. If you want to really get off sugar, try the following book.: Living Foods for Optimum Health by Brian R. Clement.
