About this product

Product Information

In this "energetic"(Kirkus Reviews)re-creation of Anne Boleyn's tragic life -- and death -- Robin Maxwell offers a pitch-perfect version of a bawdy and exuberant time filled with lust, betrayal, love, and murder. When the young Queen Elizabeth I is entrusted with Anne Boleyn's secret diary, she discovers a great deal about the much-maligned mother she never knew. And on learning the truth about her lascivious and despotic father, Henry VIII, she vows never to relinquish control to any man. But this avowal doesn't prevent Elizabeth from pursuing a torrid love affair with her horsemaster, Robin Dudley -- described with near-shocking candor -- as too are Anne's graphic trysts with a very persistent and lustful Henry. Blending a historian's attention to accuracy with a novelist's artful rendering, Maxwell weaves compelling descriptions of court life and devastating portraits of actual people into her naughty, page-turning tale. The result is a masterpiece of historical fiction -- so prophetic of our time that one would think it were ripped from today's headlines.

  • Good Read!

I just loved this book. I purchased it after having read many other books on the topic. This one is by far my favorite "Anne Boleyn" book so far. It is well written and presents so many ideas and possibilities not only about Anne and her life, but about motives behind Elizabeths actions. The diary format gives you a peek into what Anne Boleyn may have been thinking The way it is written overall creates this subtle bond between Anne and Elizabeth. Each acknowleding the other and speaking directly to each other even though they were only speaking to the idea of each other. That type of bond had to have existed on some level and it was fun to read the ways they may have influenced each other while never truly being present in one anothers lives. I highly recommend this book to anyone ...

  • AMAZING BOOK!! Highly Recommended Book on Anne Boleyn & Queen Elizabeth I.

A really great novel! I enjoyed every page. If you like Anne Boleyn, the Tudors, or the Elizabethan period of England then check this book out. Speaking of checking it out, I had originally checked it out of my local library but fell in love with the book: the characters, the lifestyle, the history came alive in my mind from the perspective of both Anne Boleyn and her daughter, Elizabeth I. After returning it to the library, where it was in much demand, I missed it so much that I absolutely had to search eBay to find a copy to own and read over and over. A++++ Highly Recommended Book on Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I.

  • Tudor's History Comes Alive!

Ever since the Show Time series, "The Tudors," came on the scene, I found I needed to know more about the people who lived in and around King henry's court. This book really makes living in those times come alive! Everyone always demonizes Anne Bolyn, but what was it really like being her and living with all the attention she received? How did she feel while her family was prodding her to seduce the King of England for their own gain? What did it feel like to be the most watched woman in Europe during the 16th century? I had to know! You will want to read this book - I guarentee it. :)

  • Elizabeth I learns more about her mother than the Court would favor.

It was an interesting read about the times of Henry VIII. The book had many accurate and well known facts as well as conjecture. The style of writing was easy to follow and mentally picture, also.

  • great book

If you have never been interested in historical novels before then this is the book to get you started. Robin Maxwell does a great job telling the story of how Queen Elizabeth I gets to know the mother she never knew. Also in reading her mothers diary, Elizabeth founds her voice as queen and makes a decision about her future reign as Queen. This is a must read for any reader or for a history buff.
