About this product

Product Information

Hot-tempered, self-centered, part-Irish Southern beauty Scarlett O'Hara, played to the teeth by Vivien Leigh, loves the gentlemanly Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard). Smug, rebellious, honest, blockade-running profiteer Rhett Butler, portrayed gracefully and naturally by Clark Gable, loves Scarlett. Ashley, who is also in love with Scarlett, marries his genteel cousin Melanie (Olivia de Havilland) because he believes that their quiet similarities will create a better marriage than Scarlett's passion. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Rhett and Scarlett at their first encounter and continue throughout Scarlett's first two marriages. Scarlett and Rhett finally wed, but Scarlett continues to pine for her beloved Ashley. Set against the Civil War and Southern Reconstruction, this tragic love quadrangle offers the burning of Atlanta and fields of wounded Confederates as part of its lush scenery. Meticulous backdrops, glorious sunsets, numerous silhouettes, and the ultrasaturated Technicolor film create a hyperreal vision. The romantic score is every bit as lush and dramatic as the photography, borrowing folk melodies from the Old South to make the tragic war concrete. Heavy nostalgic tones pervade the often witty dialogue and larger-than-life charms and faults of the leads. GONE WITH THE WIND stands among the greatest epic dramas ever filmed.

  • A MASTERPIECE!!! -- TOP AFI 10 BEST MOVIES

Gone With the Wind, the highest grossing movie of all time (in today's dollars, it grossed over $1 billion at the domestic box office), is a masterpiece unrivaled in cinematic history. The story alone is brilliant, heartbreaking, and tragic. The acting is superb--beyond anything most movies accomplish in this era. Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Olivia D'Havilland, Leslie Howard and Hattie McDaniel so personify their characters that no one else could ever fill those shoes (just try watching the movie version of the sequel--OUCH). The costumes and sets were a marvel at the time of production. If you haven't seen this movie, you are missing out on history.

  • Gone With the Wind

I like that it is a classic, It is well made for it's time. It is about a real time era (civil war) and narrows it down to specific people and life events. It is a bit of a love story but also has a lot on the civil war and the effect the war had on people's life. It has something for everyone and is a true classic in that it is the first movie ever to actually pronounce a cuss word on screen shocking people of that time. (If only they back then could see movies made in this time era) By today's standers it is a rather mild movie but that is the kind I personally prefer.

  • Romance At Its Best

Who hasn't fallen in love with Scarlette O'Hara and Rhett Butler..Prissy, Mammy, Melanie, Ashley Wilks and everyone associated with this classic film..I love to watch this on Sun. with junkfood surrounding me and laying in my babys arms..I laugh I cry I bounce up and down as things get exciting..one of my favs from my childhood..give this movie a chance if you haven't already and if you have watch it again and again and again I know I will!

  • Gone with the wind

I love classics....Hard to find these days because vulgarity has become so acceptable in entertainment. I found this movie clean and a wonderful lesson on how life is not about us but learning to lay our lives down for others and in the II Gone with the wind called "Scarlett", she becomes molded into a real heartful woman and doesnt strive for the world to revolve around her anymore.

a classic that should never have been taken off the market
