Reviews
"Fans of Succession should flock to Smokebirds , a riveting, read-it-in-one-sitting debut novel about one über-wealthy family's very bad vacation. Breyer's debut is buoyant and incisive--a beach ball wrapped in razor wire." -- Andrew Ridker , author of Hope
Synopsis
In the near future, when every autumn is fire season in California, wealthy San Franciscans flee their city for smoke-free pastures. Among them are the Petersons, a family enriched by the lumber industry, who traditionally spend every August in Hawaii. This annual retreat, once a period of leisure and luxury with golf, hikes, and high-society mingling, takes a turn when 22-year-old Cole Peterson aligns himself with Aid For Earth, a climate justice organization. Cole and Aid For Earth proceed to mire the Peterson family in scandal, alleging that Peterson Lumber started a forest fire, covered up their culpability, and then profited off a government contract to extract the burnt lumber. Smokebirds is not just a narrative about the complexity of familial bonds and the facade of integrity; it is a commentary on the enduring power of privilege against the backdrop of climate justice. It captures the tension between societal expectations of accountability and the reality of an elite untouched by the demands for change, reflecting on who truly bears the cost of our environmental crises.

Item as described and seller answered all my questions, making me feel confident in this purchase. Exquisite care taken in packaging. Seller offered companion item, which I accepted, and shipped them promptly together. There was no void space in box which can lead to crushing when stacked during the shipping process. That did not happen. Box was pristine! I cannot wait to see my daughter’s face when she opens this on Christmas Day! Thank you!!!

This seller couldn't have been better! She answered my questions promptly, sent me photos I requested and when the book arrived, on time, not only was it in excellent condition, but she had packaged it better than any item I can ever remember receiving in my many years of purchasing on Ebay! She also worked with me wonderfully on the price of the book that I purchased and there is not enough good that I can say about this seller! Thank you and please feel totally positive about any purchase! :-)

This OOP book was as described in the listing and was in excellent condition given its age and was a good price compared to other listings. It was dispatched promptly and arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date. It was very well packaged and couldn’t get much better protection. It was the first time that I’ve used this seller and would definitely purchase from them again.
