Synopsis
Colleen McCullough's sweeping saga of dreams, struggles, dark passions, and forbidden love in the Australian Outback has enthralled readers the world over. This is the chronicle of three generations of Clearys, ranchers carving lives from a beautiful, hard land while contending with the bitterness, frailty, and secrets that penetrate their family. Most of all, it is the story of only daughter Meggie and her lifelong relationship with the haunted priest Father Ralph de Bricassart-an intense joining of two hearts and souls that dangerously oversteps sacred boundaries of ethics and dogma. A poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and spirit, Colleen McCullough's acclaimed masterwork remains a monumental literary achievement-a landmark novel to be cherished and read again and again. • Happy 40th Anniversary THORN BIRDS

I read this book decades ago and it launched my love for Colleen McCullough's body of work. The Thorn Birds remains one of the most compelling and satisfying epics I've ever read. How appropriate that I found the opportunity to revisit it 40 years later. With a stunning setting and intricate, fleshed-out characters, McCullough weaves a masterful story that grabs the reader early on and simply refuses to let go. I bought a 1st edition copy for a dear friend's birthday. If you haven't read this novel, hold on and enjoy the ride of your life because you're in for a real treat!

  • Family Saga of Choices

It’s a saga of choices made in life and their effects on the next generation. Like pride causes suffering rather than humility causes love. And greed causes suffering for the one you love at the price for pride for one’s self!

  • Bad choice of a book as volume 1 is not included.

Volume 2 is no good without volume 1. Had I realized that I would not have purchased it.

  • Timeless

Beautiful love story combined with much sadness. Characters draw you in. In the end, always take time to love.
