Not an easy read, but well worth the effort.
This book was written in the 1880s, so, if you want an easy read, I don't recommend it. English of that period is, well, different. But, if you persist, check definitions of words here and there that you don't recognize, and get into the groove of the author's story telling, this makes for a wonderful read. It is a telling of the story of the life of Christ, so if that is not interesting for you, don't bother with this book. Otherwise, the descriptions of scene, emotions, thoughts, actions are vivid and flesh out this timeless story so that the reader feels like an on-the-scene witness. I will savor this book at least through the end of the summer, and I will keep it once I'm done. It is a book worth reading more than once.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

The book is in excellent physical condition. It incorporates amazing writing by the original author and a most unusual historical viewpoint of the struggles of that time. Even though the story is a fictional narrative, it immerses the reader in this ancient time and place. I have seen the 1959 movie at least a dozen times.
