We were looking for a small camera for times when a full size SLR is too much. Also wanted to have a view finder for light conditions when a screen doesn't work well. The current offerings for digital cameras with a view finder are almost all larger, much more expensive cameras. By contrast, this is pocket size and has very adequate image size available. Coupled with an optical zoom and very reasonable price, it's a bargain.

WOW ! This little point and shoot camera is just what I needed. I bought it for my gentleman friend because we were going to Alaska on a Land and Sea - Bucket List trip. He hated his previous digital camera because he could not see what he was taking on a sunny day without a view finder. Another small camera he owns has a view finder but it is a film camera and can get very pricey when you are taking over 500 pictures. This was great. small, auto focus, close-up and telephoto were right on. The colors were vibrant and sharp. We used the auto timer so we could jump into the pictures when there was no one else available to snap the shutter. Our pix of Mount Denali and the glaciers were breath taking and the 12 MP enabled us to crop and edit so our scrapbook pictures have impressed everyone. Over 500 pictures and less than 15 of them were even a little bit out of focus. Pretty good for 2 seniors. We carried it on our wrist or in our pocket so it was always at the ready. We got the pictures we wanted and saved lots of money over film camera. I don't know why camera makers stopped putting the view finder on them. We saw many people with very expensive equipment but they were more involved in protecting their camera's and getting all the correct settings. We have the best of both worlds - digital technology and user friendly equipment at a price that we can afford with great results.Read full review

I haven't had a chance yet to use this camera, but my previous camera was the exact same model. That's why I chose this one. It's one of the very few point-and-shoots with an optical viewfinder, which is the most important thing for me. I love the small size and the fact that it also uses AA batteries, which are readily available anywhere.

Canon Power Shot 1200. Why did I buy this one ? Because it's the same model I have enjoyed using trouble-free for 10 years, and in case the first fails (still going strong) I now have a back-up. For its excellent clear pictures, flexibility, reliability and ease of setting and use, it is great value, and so compact, unlike many of the much dearer 'up market' ones which perform no better!. Resolution is fully adjustable up to 12MP, and there are many customisable settings to make it exactly the camera you will want to take wherever you go to record those special unforgettable trips and events in the years to come, leaving a detailed pictorial record of your life, perhaps for your grandkids to enjoy...

I prefer to shoot film, but I wanted a digital with a viewfinder to carry with me and shoot with. This fit the bill. The images are pretty ok, maybe on par with a low-tier smartphone, but it doesn’t require me to interact with my phone at all, which was partly the point. Fits well in the pocket and hand. Love that it runs on 2 AA batteries. Pretty low-frills shooting experience, but I wasn’t expecting a DSLR. I would recommend this camera to anyone seeking a fun camera with a viewfinder that they don’t have to worry about.
