new blacksmith artist gives book 100%
I originally bought it for an instruction manual to fine-tune my hobby. I had previously seen one at our local library, and fell head-over-heels for it. I had to have one of my own! I searched all the music and book stores here and on the internet,but could not locate one. Since I am a collector of old tools, mostly blacksmith tools, I was looking through E-bay and there among those tools was this exact book! I bid, and it was mine! When I sat down with to actually read it, I realized I had made a grave mistake! I was not a blacksmith at all! This book will leave the best modern day 'smith' way behind. It is an un-edited manual for those who had no electric tools, gas furnaces, or pure-and-pricey materials to use. Written in the 1880's it contains three seperate volumes, each a different ... I did learn a few things about tempering and heat treating metal, but most of all, I found that it will take years to collect just a small sampling of the tools used by those who 'CHOSE ' to work in this trade over 100 years ago. I also learned that they had to make almost all their tools by hand! Each tool had a different job to perform. If you can find one like this, I beleive you will have one of the most valuable pieces of Americana of all time!!
