A smooth-running locomotive that outgrew HO scale
I purchased this HO scale locomotive solely to power an 8.25-inches long On30 scale centercab diesel kit that I ordered from England. The Bachmann chassis was the perfect length to fit inside the On30 body, whereas a more easily found F-unit or GP-9 mechanism would have been too short. I will dispose of the HO scale "Trainmaster" shell at some model railroad club meeting or train show once such activities resume following the pandemic shutdown. As a model railroader living on the Pacific Coast I really have no use for a Virginian locomotive, despite its attractive color scheme. The bottom line for prospective buyers of a Bachmann FM H 16-44 engine, whether for use in HO or On30 scale, is that it is a smooth runner at slow speeds.
