NCIS combines the action of TV police and detective shows with the inquiry and science of the forensics based crime shows. Like both of these genres, the stories are far from realistic, but the characters and the fast pace keep the show interesting. I watch very little television usually, so didn't "discover" this program until recently. Reruns are shown very heavily on cable, but not usually in the same order as originally shown. I purchased the set of the first 6 seasons to be able to watch the shows in order and to have them on file for viewing when I want escapism and there is little offered on TV. For any who are unfamiliar with the program, NCIS stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The team is led by Gibbs, the silver haired former Marine sniper. He patterns himself to a great extent after John Wayne. Tony is the arrogant younger officer who wants to be like Gibbs. McGee is the new guy on the team, multiple degrees from prestigious universities and author of mystery novels. Abby is the forensic scientist who is the expert in all fields of science and handles all the tests in very short time. There have been two different female members of the team. Kate was a former Secret Service agent who ended up being killed by a terrorist bullet. Ziva is a Mossad agent who is now working with the team through some complex exchange arrangement. Characters are interesting and the acting is good. Story lines are interesting though the actions of the team would in the real world end up with their cases being thrown out of court and they would be lucky to escape prison sentences. The forensic science is interesting, but very unrealistic in that one person handles it all and solves all questions so quickly. All in all, an entertaining program.Read full review
DVDs worked well in DVD player, but not on my computers - neither my laptop(Windows Vista), nor my Apple desktop (OS X Snow Leopard). I opened only season 1 before returning entire set (seasons 1 through 6) back to the seller, but seasons 2-6 appeared to be the same as the one I opened (season 1). Packaging was very authentic looking and shrink wrapped, but were not like the true product (verified by seeing authentic copy in store). Boxes had minor spelling errors printed throughout (DVD descriptions, etc.). DVDs came with no disc cases, rather a cheap multi-disc sleeve. Labeling of disk was professional looking, but nowhere near the quality of the real thing (i.e., each disc in the pirated set had an identical label showing all of the characters from the TV show, while in the authentic copy each disc showed a different cast member). Overall, this product looked like someone put a lot of work into making the exterior packaging look authentic in pictures (glossy cardboard boxes individually shrink wrapped), but once opened, they did not compare to the original at all.Read full review
My wife and daughter got hooked on the show when they saw a bunch of re-runs. For the price, it was great to get this 6 season pack. I had never watched a full episode prior to buying this. Watching Season 3 at this point. As long as I overlook the "political statements" that crop up every now and then in the dialogue, and view this as not too realistic, it can be very entertaining. My wife and daughter don't seem to be fazed by the political stuff at all. They just like the characters and their interactions. So I can recommend it as good, don't have to think much, kill some time entertainment. It is fun most of the time.
NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it's a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a former Marine gunnery sergeant, whose skills as an investigator are unmatched, formerly led this troupe of colorful personalities. Gibbs, a man of few words, only needs a look to explain it all. The team includes NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), an ex-homicide detective who may come off as the world's oldest frat boy, but whose instincts in the field are unparalleled; forensic specialist Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), a talented scientist whose dark wit matches her Goth style and eclectic tastes, NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), an MIT graduate whose brilliance with computers far overshadows his insecurities in the field and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), a former Moussad agent who shares a bond with Gibbs over the death of his arch nemesis, Ari, the terrorist who killed former NCIS Special Agent Kate Todd. Assisting the team is medical examiner Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum), who knows it all because he's seen it all, and he's not afraid to let you know. Rounding out the team is NCIS director Jennifer Shepard (Lauren Holly) who has a romantic history with Gibbs. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents travel the globe to investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties.Read full review
I could watch this show 24/7 and never tie of it. It's down to earth, it's moody, it's funny and it's serious and it's all at one time. Gibbs has the Brain's and he is the silent type. DeNoseo has the look's and he love's to try and get with the ladies. McGee is always serious no matter what, (Unless it's causes DeNoseo unhappiness. Vade is a "reminder that women can do anything they want. Duckie works hard find ways for "dead bodies to talk to him". The one person who makes this show fun to watch is Abby, she sleeps in a coffin and is dressed like a mental case and lovessssss to freeze her brain with giant cups of ice-ees that Gibbs or whoever needs some work done from her gives her as a reward. NCIS just takes you inside there world and you never want to leave. Everyone should own this show. All I have to say is:,"Go rent or buy the movie". Enjoy the movie.Read full review
One of the best shows on television today. Mark Harmon is a genius as Jethro Gibbs. The show is just exciting and fun from start to finish. The Characters really make this show too. From Gibbs who leads the NCIS to Forensic girl Abby to the Medical Examiner Ducky. Every Character has their own unique thing about them that just makes the show really watchable. I highly recommend this show to anyone.

I am a mystery buff so I love NCIS! I only just recently started watching it because my son bought the first season of it and within just a couple episodes I was hooked. Agent Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team (Tony, Kate, Abbey, Duckie, and McGee) investigate cases that have to do with the military armed forces. From Tony's borderline sexual harassment to Abbey's bubbly goth persona these folks will rearrange your thinking on alot of things.
I bought the silver box set, which tends to cost a bit less then 6 different boxed sets. I love this product because it has all the disks for the first 6 seasons, and it is in a very compact size. It takes up half the space as 6 seasons of other TV series. The down side is that it does not come with an episode guide/booklet. I've had to print one up off the internet. But overall a great product and woth the price!
Super DVD's , my daughter loves them, THANKS SO MUCH !
