Creatures 40th Anniversary 2CD Release
Though my 2nd all time favorite KISS studio album (Revenge is my No.1 favorite), I was surprised that 40th anniversary editions were released for this record. Why? Because Paul is so bitter about Vinnie Vincent, I never thought the band would want to celebrate anything Vinnie was on. However, Creatures of the night was their musical come back album after the poppy Unmasked & The concept album--Music from the Elder. It also highlighted and spotlighted the talent of Eric Carr with a production that features a bombastic, front & center drum infused album. This album consists of songs they have played many times live: Creatures of the Night, I Love It Loud, I Still Love You & War Machine. Historically, it was an album that first featured Vinnie Vincent on lead guitar and was the last ... Historically, it was an album that first featured Vinnie Vincent on lead guitar and was the last album to be recorded during their initial makeup years. The remaster of this 9 track album sounds good, but there's very few recognizable differences heard throughout the record. There's two versions of this anniversary release: a two cd version & a pricey multiple disc box set containing many collectable items like reproductions of a tour book, photos plus things such as guitar picks, posters & stickers. The 2cd set is a tad like spilled milk. The multi disc version features way more demos, rarities and live tracks, but the ones compiled on the 2 disc set are incomplete demos. The live cuts are excellent but this 2 disc set would had been better if they put on it the completed demo for Deadly Weapons & the 4 'new songs' released on a German/European 'best of' album entitled 'Killers' back in 1982--which were more or less a preview of what would come after it--the release of "Creatures of the Night". It has a pretty nice booklet that features some never before seen photos plus interview excerpts from Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Carr & album producer Michael James Jackson. I rate it a 7 out of 10 for this release, but the album itself is a defident 10++! If you're a die-hard KISS fan and if this a favorite KISS album, it's still a nice release to add to your KISS/Music Collection.
