Reservation Road was slow at beginning and builds up ending. A child lays dead, another family coming home and Red Sox game come together in chaos. Cops investigate case for one month solid, father starts internet about victims. A ball cap will set the whole story on its end with a cop that isn’t who he really should be. SUV grill in a photo is the evidence the father needs to catch the killer. I'm not going to tell you anymore, the story has a twist I didn't expect... I love the way Joahquin Phoenix becomes the character he portrays. It is so amazing. It takes a truly great actor that has that ability. Everyday families interacting with other families without realizing it. The accident occures so quick and these unfamiliar lives are tied together forever. JP is a kind of nerdy guy who stands up to his loss but, slowly succumbs to his sorrow and crosses the line into total despair, leaving his family (emotionally) behind as he seeks vengance on his son's murderer. The story goes along at a slow pace but, you feel what all the characters feel as they each try to cope with changes this death has brought to them all. The only thing that keeps me from saying it is "excellent" is I wanted to see the conclusion all wrapped up at the end. It left a lot of speculation on it's conclusion but, I'd watch it, again.Read full review
This is a dark film about revenge and ultimate redemption. A family played by Joaquin Phoenix and Jennifer Connelly, lose their talented young son in a tragic hit and run accident, and, in their grief, turn their energies to their young daughter, played by the young actress Elle Fanning. She becomes a talented piano player, just as their son was talented at playing music. However, the father is obsessed with tracking down the person who killed his son, but that man happens to be a divorced lawyer with a young son of his own, and the man's conscience becomes an ongoing problem for him. The acting is good, though I think Jennifer Connelly was miscast, but Elle Fanning does a wonderful job portraying the daughter.
A Friend of ours and I noticed a reviewer for this film did the same thing..Our Friend while knowing what this film was about saw it then whined about how horrible it was for her to see since she has kids..hello, knock knock knock, it's no secret what the storyline is about, why see something you know is going to distress you?? DUH! BTW kudos to those of you who told who the hit and run driver was..after all who wants to be surprised during a movie?? For us the shocker was seeing who the hit and run driver was, but hey not everyone is like us they want to know who the bad guy is in relevance to the victims, before it's revealed!! On to the review! What a sad story..A sweet cute young boy musically gifted gets out of his Families car to do a good deed..a Dad on his way to return his Son to his ex wife more concerned about himself then those on the road he speeds his way down a twisted road while fumbling around he takes his eyes off the road for a split second when he looks up he relizes he has crossed over into the wrong lane he swerves to avoid the oncoming car he panics loses control and you can guess the rest....warning do not watch this film if such scenes upset you..the storyline has happened many times in the past, the casting was superb..All involved did a great job showcasing their grief at the horrible accident which claimed the young boys life..the ending for the tear jerker is a classic every revenge filled person should watch..I give this movie 5 out of 5 bars!!Read full review
A great, unique story with fantastic cast of actors giving peak performance on a depressing, sad auto accident that could happen to any body. The great news is the lost son's father takes matters into his own hands due to bad police investigators, and brings it to a surprising, twist conclusion without having to shoot the hit and run, shocked driver for justice and redemption.
