The 2.5-inch form factor allows you to use this internal drive with both desktop and laptop computers without adding clutter to your case. The ST9500620NS has a data transfer rate of 600Mbps, which makes it ideal for systems where rapid disk I/O is critical to the enterprise. A lot of performance issues come from high latency times between system memory and the hard disk. The Seagate Constelllation.2 reduces these times to only 4.16 milliseconds, thereby greatly reducing latency and increasing performance. Furthermore, the average seek time from one address to another is only 8.5 milliseconds, allowing you to access your data quickly no matter where it is located on a disk. A shock tolerance of 70G when operating, and 400G when switched off, ensures that these accessories can survive your average slip, drop, or fall. These hard drives use SMART monitoring to anticipate possible disk corruption and diagnose reliability issues before they lead to a problem. If such an issue is detected, the drive will alert you that a disk failure may be imminent, allowing you or your company to back up critical data before it is lost. In enterprise situations, this accessory can save you from having to invest in data recovery and restoration.By optimizing their hardware, Seagate has ensured that the Constellation.2 can perform under varied conditions. These accessories make use of Native Command Queuing (NCQ) to optimize which read and write commands are executed first. These subtle adjustments allow the drive to execute simpler commands more quickly, which increases perceived performance. Perpendicular Magnetic Recording technology allows bits of information to be stored closer together. As a result, more data can be stored on smaller devices, which keeps the drive's profile small enough to fit into any computer. For big companies, saving on power costs is essential. This disk uses PowerChoice technology to dynamically adjust power consumption, increasing the life of the component while saving energy during idle states. This unit is certified compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 and can be reformatted to work with Apple and Linux operating systems as well.

Overall a positive experience but the server packaging could be improved some, especially the exterior padding material. One of the metal rack ear was snapped off the chassis during transit, which then also bent the front metal frame around the 2.5" drive bays. Not a huge deal for me, but some better packaging materials could be used for padding inside the box instead of wadded-up paper. Otherwise the item was exactly as described and in good working order. Would still recommend this seller.

    Great deal, but know the limitations!

    This a great deal for a 500MB NEW 2.5 inch drive. Buyers DO need to be aware that it is designed for server usage, and that it won't work (it won't even FIT - it's too thick) in your laptop. And it requires both 5 and 12 volts to operate. So it WON'T work off of a USB interface that supplies only 5V. But if you can use it in a desktop system, it's fast (>100MB/s) and reliable. Best used in installations where a 3 1/2 drive will work. Great value for the money!
