    For anyone interested in the earliest recordings and live performances of The Grateful Dead, look no further than this double CD set. If you've seen their earliest publicity photos and wondered how they sounded then to live audiences and in the recording studio, this will tell you all. This CD set is long out of print so grab it if you find it.

  • Classic early Dead!

    This is a great compilation of early Grateful Dead music, much of which has not been heard by the majority of Deadheads. As you listen, it becomes apparent that many of the songs were written when the newly formed band was still trying to decide exactly what type of band they were going to be. There are some extremely psychedelic tracks like "Mindbender", as well as quite a few hard-core blues/rock songs (no doubt the influence of Ron "Pigpen" McKernan). It is interesting to hear how they once performed standards like "I Know You Rider" way back then. I was surprised to learn that "Don't Ease Me In" was one of their earlier tunes, since they didn't record it for many years. Being a long-time Deadhead, I thought I had "heard it ...
