The 2006 one-cent piece is a 1.55-mm (0.06-inch) thick copper-plated zinc coin that has a composition of 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper and a plain edge. The core of this US cent is 99.2 percent zinc and 0.8 percent copper, and it is covered with 100 percent copper plating. Its obverse side shows a portrait of President Lincoln that was designed by Victor David Brenner in 1909 for the centennial commemoration of Lincoln’s birth date. The reverse side shows the Lincoln Memorial as designed by Frank Gasparro in 1959 to celebrate Lincoln's birth date sesquicentennial. The reverse side of this US cent also has the legends “United States of America” and “E Pluribus Unum.” Pieces like this copper-plated zinc coin were struck by the US Mint facilities in Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, and this Lincoln cent has a diameter of 19.05 mm (0.75 inches) and a weight of 2.5 g (0.09 oz).
