One of the great Love story of all times

Movie company tried over the many years to make a movie like Waterloo Bridge but did not come close because of the great acting by Robert Taylor and Vivian Leigh and above all the great Love Story which makes this movie one of the great Love Story of all times I saw this movie when I was a teenager and for many years seek to find it until now

  • Great Performance by Vivien Leigh

Fresh from her triumphant Academy Award winning performance as Scarlett O'Hara, Vivien Leigh next starred in this tragic love story of a poor ballerina named Myra in London during WWII. On Waterloo Bridge, she meets Roy (Robert Taylor), a flyer in the Royal Air Force. They have a whirlwind courtship, get married, and then he leaves on assignment. But because she has missed rehearsals, Myra is dismissed by her boss at the theatre. When Roy doesn't return, Myra assumes that he must be dead. Out of work, no money, she resorts to prostitution to make ends meet. And then all of a sudden Roy returns. This tragic love story which includes Myra's coverup of what she did in desperation fires the rest of the story. Today, it would be no big deal, but in the 1940s in ...

  • Waterloo Bridge

This is a must have for Vivien Leigh fans. Her co star's American accent is a bit distracting since he is supposed to be Scottish, and frankly, so is Vivien's beauty. While she is on screen you tend to focus on her gorgeous face and forget everything else. Hence the reason to buy the film, that way, you can watch it over and over again and actually follow what is going on. This is her first film after Gone With the Wind. Set in the war years, the film is not perfect, the hairstyles and costumes are a bit of a mystery, you become somewhat confused about what era they are supposed to be in. Vivien plays a down on her luck ex ballerina who has to resort to prostitution in order to make ends meet. She ends up with tragic results, the look on her face when she gives it all up ...

  • Waterloo Bridge - is an appropriate title after the well known book.

What makes this film is the brilliant performance of Vivien Leigh as Myra. This was her first film after "GONE WITH THE WIND"..She had wanted Sir Lawrence Olivier to play the part of her fiancée Captain Roy. But instead Hollywood directors from Warner Brothers cast Robert Taylor who was not at all convincing as having come from Scottish nobility with an American accent! Other actors in the film gave creditable performances.

  • Very significant

This movie is an all-time wonderful romance. It takes place during WW II and it is not far fetched at all. A lovely, beautiful ballerina (Vivien Leigh) meets a handsome Captain on Waterloo Bridge. He pursues her and they fall in love. He goes away to war and is reported killed in action. She is devastated and in order to survive she turns to prostitution. He returns, as records were incorrect and he searches for her, but she is so ashamed of what she has done and feels dirty, and unworthy of him. He loves her regardless. I can't tell the ending. I can tell you that if you watch it, you, like me, will want to watch it again and again.
