Have you ever wondered what it would be like to watching an old corney western movie (they are all the same, aren't they?) and have a samurai come out of nowhere and start hacking off arms, legs and other various body parts? Honestly, neither had I until I picked up this game. I am not a fan of westerns, but this definitely makes them fun. This game is just crazy though. Everything is made to be wierd and out of place, but that makes it all the better. The graphics, however, are a bit lacking and so is the length of the game, but it has it's fair share of unlockables that might get you to play through it a few times. Or you may just get the urge to dismember more cowboys. I say, unless your a stuck-up fan of the old westerns, pick up this game and have a blast. If you can find it, I don't see it much.Read full review
I never had nor heard of Samurai Western back in the day and this is a good thing because from what I played of it, it is a really good game. You play as samurai and it takes place in a western town. You can also level him up so it has role playing elements also which is a huge plus to me. If you are a fan of these aspects like me then I really recommend Samurai Western. It really is very good. Also you can jump and deflect bullets which is very interesting and dodge. 5⭐ in my book.
Atlus was always a game developer ahead of their time and Samurai Western is no exception. I am glad that I never knew about this game when it was released in 2005 because playing it now, after having played Red Dead Redemption for countless hours, I can even more appreciate just how marvelous this game really is. If you haven't invested in component cables for your PS2 this game is one great reason to do so. The scenery, though not open ended is gorgeous and really captures the wild west. The fighting is exciting. More often than not I am on the edge of my seat completely immersed in the dodging and slicing of the Samurai's sword. The voice acting is terrific. the graphics are perfect in that they do not try to surpass the technology of the time and try and be too realistic. The movements of the main character are fluid and exact. The A.I. can at times be repetitive, but not so much so that it distracts from the action. Overall, I love this game. It's definitely a hack and slash, but with a great story and a well developed style.Read full review
