This is a project very important to Barbra which she mentions to her audience 20 years earlier in her One Voice concert and it is inspired by her peers Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis- Bennett released an album for Columbia in the mid 1960's with songs like Emily -and Barbra pays homage to her childhood idol Mathis by mimicking Johnny's curvature of a phrase in the haunting Alex North's tune "Wild is the wind". Although Barbra salutes the 1930's with Chaplin's smile and an old fox musical with Frances Langford and George Raft in her video for I'm in the mood for love" Streisand mainly focuses on the Hollywood era of the late 50's and 60's with films like Four Horseman of the Apocalypse -Breakfast at Tiffany's and Inside Daisy ... Any Streisand fan would worship a 2 hour documenatary of The Hollywood Movie Musical sung by Barbra Streisand -but of course that would be a dream or unrealistic fantasy if ever propabale- fans can't get enough...My own personal favorites are the 80's tunes (How do you keep the Music playing and Javeeta Steele's Calling You )and my own reason is i think her vocals have a very vibrant energy on these contemporary tracks. i hope Barbra does a second edition of the Movie Album or a third sequel to her Broadway bookends- I recommend this recording to fans of standards and lovely arrangements and classics. Barbra uses great photos of her by Annie Leibowitz and Terry O'Neil and dedicates it to her friend Gregory Peck . Great record ! A++++++
