Product Information

The ProSafe 8-port switch provides power and data from a single point, using Power over Ethernet (PoE) over a single Cat-5 cable. The user can benefit of the eight fast Ethernet ports for any 10/100 Mbps link and four of these ports can supply industry-standard IEEE 802.3af power. The advanced auto-sensing algorithm gives power only to 802.3af end devices, so the user doesn't need to worry about damaging proprietary PoE or non-PoE equipment. In addition, it discontinues the power when PoE devices are disconnected. The ProSafe switch automatically determines PoE requirements, speed, duplex and cable type using AutoUplink. Furthermore, these devices are optimally installed on a ceiling or high on a wall, away from most electrical outlets. This allows for flexibility in situating devices where AC power is difficult to access.

Simple, effective, compact, inexpensive, dummy proof.
I own a couple. They were all sourced "previously owned", and they all work, no hiccups. It's one of the few true dummy-proof networking products out there. A compact, simple, inexpensive, 8port self-managed (old IT hands sure appreciate it) 10/100 switch allows you to expand or extend connectivity, from a integrated router/modem, which often have only 4-6 ports. It self-detects "uplink" (the ethernet wire you bring from router to switch), which spares having to manually select or toggle anything, or patch uplink cables. Nifty! Particularly useful if you got a media stream box, game console, bluray player, audio-video receiver, tv, the other game console and [insert whatever other stuff here] hanging from a single spot. "Why not simply use wi-fi?" you ask. Because wireless fails, ... I own a couple. They were all sourced "previously owned", and they all work, no hiccups. I have never had one of these switches with ports that shut down. I needed a switch box and thought I would give it a try. I have a couple of other setups that I will now be changing over to this netgear model. Very reliable.

NetGear is always a good products.
I bought this NetGear switch to provide additional network feeds for adding additional IP cameras for my security system. If I didn't like the product I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place, yes I like the product and there are no dislikes for this purchase. The NetGear products are generally satisfactory and I did not expect any issues at all when I purchased it. I would not have purchased any other brand as I have had excellent experiences with the NetGear. I have purchased several NetGear switches, of late and they were needed to complete my system.I bought this NetGear switch to provide additional network feeds for adding additional IP cameras for my security system.
