A great projector for very little money
I bought a PLV-Z4 when they came out many years ago. Spent $2500 on it. Now you can get them for $150, lol. It's not 1080p, but it still has a very nice picture at 720p. I ran mine at 120" diagonal shooting on a white wall and it was great. Obviously you need good light control. Also if you use a ceiling mount be sure not to over torque the bolts that hold the PJ to the mount; it can cause image issues. It put a greenish cast on the upper right corner of mine. Drove me nuts until I figured it out. At the prices they are now, you can't go wrong with it!I bought a PLV-Z4 when they came out many years ago. Spent $2500 on it. Sanyo PLV-Z4 LCD Projector - love this projector
Wonderful image. Clear, sharp with good user controls and adjustment options. From 12 ft it shoots an image against my wall that is nearly 96 x 48. I haven't even built a screen yet. I'm just shooting against my wall which is a beige color and has a pronounced textured drywall finish. And the picture still ROCKS!! I can't wait to see it against a DIY screen. I just watched Monday Night Football last night and was blown away. I'm a noob at projectors so this is entry level for me. I bought this used for $310 plus S&H and it is worth twice that. Even thought it's a 720P max projector the picture will not dissapoint. Avatar looks great as did Narnia Prince Caspian using a plain old upscaling DVD player. If you can get your mitts on a PLV-Z4 or PLV-Z5 for under $500 by all means do so. Also ... Wonderful image. Clear, sharp with good user controls and adjustment options. This projector is now 4-5 yrs old and the next gen are smaller and need less adjusting out of the box) I payed 500 for mine (overpayed) going rate is about $400 with a bulb with less than 1000 hrs. good: 1: projector can be mounted on the ceiling or placed on a tabletop 2: horizontal and vertical adjustment (placement not that critical) 3: min throw distance for a 100 inch screen is 9.5 ft 4: color accuracy is very close (after adjusting) (internet sites can give you the proper config settings) 5: very quiet in economy setting (3000 hrs bulb life?) will have to see bad: 1: bigger than most of todays projectors 2: Uses air filters that need to be cleaned (DLP's don't have filters) 3: shorter bulb life than dlp ... good color, more accurate (with adjusting) than my sharp dlp projector. If you are looking for a good home theater projector, hook this up to a bluray player and be amazed! Great, bright, deep colors and super crisp images! Short throw can give a 100" picture in just 10'! Perfect focus and keystone correction. Quiet fan and automatic open/close lens cover keeps things clean. Filters keep cooling air clean. Only thing it doesn't have is audio. You must use a good surround sound system... But why wouldn't you in your home theater??? Buy this and amaze yourself and anyone else lucky enough to watch a $1.50 Redbox bluray movie in the comfort of home. Pass the popcorn! Look around and find one for 1/10th the original price.
