Doctor Who in the 70's had a lot to strive for. The budgets were not high, and as a result, the episodes sometimes suffered. Get past a few cheesy effects involving oil rig model shots and aliens that look like pizza toppings, and Who fans should enjoy this story. Some great scenes, full of creepy atmosphere and serious acting are to be enjoyed. Of course, there are no dvd style extras on this vhs outing, but the nostalgia of seeing it just as you remembered it is still valid. Loved the great model work on the Zygon's ship. Didn't like the hokey puppet-like Loch ness monster head shots. But Tom Baker's mad-manic style is hard not to relish. A fun story all around, and the one that predicted a woman Prime Minister for the UK before Thatcher was even in the running. Fun !!!
I have loved this episode since the 80's. (This is when I really started watching and Loving Doctor Who). Tom Baker, as usual, is great. Coming back to Earth from his time travelling to investigate the "Loch Ness Monster". Doesn't get any better than that! Great job of integrating an Earth Myth into a Doctor Who plot. This is what has always made Doctor Who one of the best and longest running series ever. The ability to create sub-plots within actual Earth history isn't always easy, but Doctor Who has been able to this for over 30 years. Terror of the Zygons is a very easy plot to follow and get into. Enjoy and keep watching.
I am personally a Whovian. sure there are Star Wars fans, and Star Trek fans, but I have always found Doctor Who to be the greatest of them all, especially with over 15 years of episodes to watch. here is a time Lord with the power to do anything he wants, and he goes around the galaxy saving the universe, and his pet people us earthlings as well. of course the quality of action is not what you expect in today's movies, but overall these are some great classics and I suggest you add them to your archive today, and help the tradition continue.
Dr Who is a love it or hate it thing. If you love it then Terror of the Zygons is a classic in the series. Sarah Jane is adorable and Harry is suitably inept. The Doctor, as usual, saves the day from slimy fungal aliens in a space ship that is organic on the inside, but metal on the outside who are using the Loch Ness Monster to disupt the world's oil supply.
VHS tapes are cheap now so get the ones that are not available on DVD yet. Moat of the Dr Who's are great but my opinion is that Tom Baker had the greatest acting is the many years of Dr Who. Invest some money and buy some.
