    Funny

while some of the humor in this movie may be dated to many younger folks (primarily those who never heard of Jack Lemon, Ricky Nelson or World War II), it’s a good yarn, completely conceivable shot on lovely locations. I say the story in conceivable… and for those who might disagree, read about the bootstrap operations conducted in the Pacific campaigns during the first third of the war in the Pacific.

How can you not like Jack Lemmon and Ricky Nelson?

It's just not as much fun as I remember.

  • Clasic comedy worth watching.

This is a great comedy classic. Not like todays so called comedies, this film makes you laugh and keeps you wanting more. Jack Lemon, the fumiest straight man ever! That's all I am saying don't want to give a thing away.

  • Entertaining Wartime Comedy

A good DVD transfer. A war time comedy with serious moments. Color and on-location scenes look good. Lemon plays the role well.

  • The Wackiest Ship in the Army

A good movie about the war but as usual it turns out very well when you put someone like Jack Lemon in it. He and the cast do a good job as the bumbling crew of a sailing ship doing behind the lines covert work. The plot is typical american; no matter how stupid they are they can beat anybody. The problem is that at this time the AIF did two successful commando raids into Singapore Harbour. Unfortunately in these real raids all Allied troops (No US troops) were captured and executed on the second raid. It is a pity that the film follows the Krait Raids so closely. But as a comedy, it is a success. pity it mimics a very real and tragic event.
