  • Lean Manufacturing Bible

My company (Medical Device Manufacturer) has just started to "lean out" the manufacturing, purchasing, and planning processes. I'm an engineer (both "sustaining"/improvement and R&D for new products) and wanted to get a head start for how the technical side will need to change. This book has valuable tips and lessons for removing "muda" (waste; non-value-added activities) from an entire operation. It may have been written almost 20 years ago, but it is very relevant today. Recommended. Also recommended: "Lean Thinking" by James P. Womack (many corporate examples cited; I prefer this approach to learning applications).

  • Superb!

It's a reference of production systems. I consider it a great advance for industry. I like very much to have it.

  • Worth a read

I wanted to get back to the source, to root cause and to me this was it. There are so so many re-interpretations of Ohno's ideas that I wanted to make my own journey rather than arrive at the destination using someone else's map. It's reasonably well written considering it's a translation and certainly informative. It's getting hard to find and isn't cheap but in the scheme of things it's certainly one you want on your reading list.
