    • Not as SSD, but it is fast enough for my needs

If you can afford an SSD in your budget, get that. Otherwise, this is a great alternative that cost less per GB of storage. Note that these type of server grade 10k rpm HDD cannot be used in a laptop nor a book sized (tiny sized) computer. It'll overheat your system. It is designed to be used in a computer that has good airflow (cooling) as it can get quite warm. You'll hear some noise - it is a little louder than the usual 7200 rpm hard drive. If that bothers you, this is not the product you want. For my build that is used to surf the web and play Android games with an Android emulator, this drive is good enough and it is faster than the typical 7200 rpm hard drives.

    • Excellent alternative to a SSD hard drive

I've purchased several VelociRaptor SATA hard drives for use in computers that I donate to Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity. For older towers and laptops these provide EXCELLENT performance and a good speed boost. Old XP Pros and Vista Pro computers can really use the performance boost. The drives are typically whisper quiet even though they operate at 10K RPM. Most of these SATA drives come in an aluminum "caddy" so they can be immediately used in desktop machines. Simply removing 4 tiny Torx screws from the bottom will allow you to remove the drive from the caddy so it can be used in a laptop. The VelociRaptor drives typically consume about 10 milliamps more current than an equivalent sized 5400 or 7200 RPM drive. This is immaterial in a desktop but in a laptop it could drop you ...

    • ~30k hrs for these drives, but reliable.

One of the drives that I purchased had a perfect bill of health, while one, according to CrystalDiskInfo had a few errors: Uncorrectable, Pending and Reallocated Sector errors. Been using in RAID0 with no issues though. The price is right, and for what I used it for, if it ends up failing, nbd
