A still good dictionary for the general reader
This desk dictionary is a precious gem in its publication. All the illustrations are in color, one of the features making it special compared with other dictionaries of its kind. Clear definitions and examples are given is a great advantage for students and those who want to study the English language. Although its publication is in the year 2000, lacking some of the scientific terminology of the 21st century, it is still good enough for the general reader. I love this dictionary and am happy to have one like this. Best learning tool in our class. We love this book.
This dictionary has become our go-to book. It has done more for my students than any other learning tool we have. I bought it myself for my GED classroom because the paperback dictionaries we have weren't adequate for our work and weren't generating any student excitement. My students get this book out every day! They can't wait to look something up, play the dictionary game or just check the spelling of a word. They like the thumb guide, color photos, and clear print. The size and heft of this book proclaim it to be a serious tool and my students like and respect that. When it went missing one day, there was a great hue and cry of outrage until we found it in the resource learning center. I have ordered five more of these to use as graduation gifts for my GED students when they pass ... This dictionary has become our go-to book. My favorite dictionary
Wore out my old copy, and replaced it with this more recent edition. Loved the old one, love this one. Comprehensive, well illustrated, has derivations, lots more, in an easy to handle size. Granted, the Oxford has more words, but it weighs a ton, most of the extra words are rarely used, and this one is much easier to use when looking up words encountered while reading.

It's a huge book with definitions of modern terms and short bios of important people, and slang terms. You can find everything you're looking for and much more.
