    Great coil. So far, so good.

    This is the heavy-duty version of SMP's coil for the Jeep 4.0L It has a brass cable terminal, thick plastic cover, and the windings are encapsulated in a sort of epoxy insulation. Unlike the OEM coil - which is entirely covered in shrink, or dipped, black plastic, the laminated primary core on the UF-97 is exposed (or has very, very a thin layer of varnish). Most all of the aftermarket coils I've seen also have this feature. Maybe it's for better cooling (?). The plastic cover (insulation) on my OEM coil was cracked in several places. Although the OEM coil bench-tested OK, my engine was idling rough. Swapping in this UF-97 coil fixed all that.
