  • Powerful Computer, but no Intel Processor.

I bought this computer at $610, it's extremely powerful, and very fast. It's only flaw, is that it doesn't have one of the new Intel processors. Now that might not seem like a big deal at first, but it kind of is. Intel processors require that apple program their software differently, so if you plan on buying any top of the line video editing or graphical software, whether it be final cut or Adobe products, forget about it. Final Cut 6 (or Final Cut Studio 2), and Adobe CS4, are the last generations of software that will function on this computer. Now with that said, FC 6, and CS4 are still pretty powerful, and you definitely don't need every new bell and whistle to make awesome products. I say if you're just getting into film making, or graphical design, this is a great investment. Oh. ...

  • Great machine but somewhat limited by 10.5.8 OS PPC. Bang for the buck A+

It's a 7 year old machine and it still rocks. I think this is the fastest PPC machine Apple ever made. G5 quad core. It seems to be as fast as my 2010 MBP, but that's totally subjective. The box is very heavy and hard to move around, but the insides are easy to access. The fans seems to kick on less than the Dual G5 2.7 I used to own, and it is far faster (80% faster I read). You can put 16gb of memory in this beast and 2 SATA drives easily. More drives are possible with add ins. If you know what you are doing, and don't need the latest and greatest, this is a great machine that you can pick up for short money.

  • A great way to end the PPC Legacy

The G5 powermac is the end of the line of the PowerPC Macintoshes. That being said if you have old OS X software this is *THE* machine to get. If you have old OS 9 based PowerPC software, this is the fastest machine you can run it on, provided you have OS X 10.4 as it still supports classic, while 10.5 removed it. These machines tend to run HOT & LOUD under load... but I don't think there is a cheaper way to get a powerhouse to run iDVD, esp sub $300... Avoid ones with damaged water cooling setups, if you must buy damaged look for ones with system errors that at least boot up.. it could be simple bad ram/disks which are trivial to swap.

  • Old skool Mac, still a powerhouse.

This was the last of the 2005 era G5s, the 4-processor version now available used, at less than half the price of a Dual Intel Xeon Core2 MacPro. If Windows software isn't important, if 16GB of RAM is enough, then this will get the job done with enough cash left for that Adobe CS4 Suite you've been jonesing for. It may not be the current young heavyweight champion, but it still packs a knock your lights out punch. Downside? OS 10.5 Leopard is the last Mac software supported, so at some point the software train is going to leave you behind. At which time, that $6800 Nenhalem processor MacPro can be scored on eBay, again for half-price, loaded with drives and RAM.

  • Quad 2.5 PCIe. Great Buy! great Performance.

This machine will be my attempt to further the life line of Digidesign TDM technology. I am adding an expansion chassis with a PCIe host card to a 13 slot PCI frame. My MIX Plus +++ systems is not quite ready to lay down. This non-intel machine is the last chance to upgrade to machine with 4 cores or more. The Quad core can also make the transition to HD systems. Enough blah blah blah....
