About this product

Product Information

Today's gardeners have more plants and design ideas to choose from than ever before. But is there something missing in their gardens if they ignore their ties to the past? Denise Wiles Adams has written a remarkable book of history and horticulture that documents the changing plant palette of American gardens. From the colonial era to the pre-World War II period, no region of the country is neglected and no major plant group unrepresented. From a database of more than 25,000 plants and hundreds of antique nursery catalogs, she has distilled a unique survey of American ornamental gardens. Nobody concerned with historic homes and properties can afford to be without it. An important resource that will be consulted for generations, Restoring American Gardens is a vital link between gardeners and their predecessors throughout history. This book is only available through print on demand. All interior art is black and white.

I've bought these from this seller multiple times. They're a very good value, come with both a USB-A and USB-C cable, thermal pad, and good, simple packaging without a lot of wasted space. Seller often includes a handwritten thank you note too! Nice touch! :)

Item is of excellent quality and operates very good for the purpose I purchased it. The package where it came was a bag with bubble wrap but the item came in perfect condition due to the manufacturer's box. No bends and broken box. The price is excellent. All came very good. I ordered during Christmas eve and arrived as expect. Vendor included me a nice Christmas post card. Lovely detail. A+++ seller. Honest one.

The title of this book caught my eye as I am trying to figure out correct period appropriate landscaping and gardens for my 18th century home. From the title and blurb about the book, I thought this would be a good one to help with the project of planning gardens. I was wrong. The book looks like a really beautiful seed catalogue, and would likely be very useful to a learned gardener. The only place I can see where it would help my project is that the dates that plants were introduced are given. To go beyond that point, you must study the book and learn to use it like a textbook. There are tables and indexes, and appendixes that list information, but no plans or drawings for the layout of historic gardens, no suggestions for the placement of the plants and the ways they were used. ...
