    Just what you would expect

This router is amazing. I've used it for weeks with my ATT Mobley. It has a surprisingly long battery life, is small and light and has a number of different modes for almost every occasion. The signal strength is good. Considering it's being used in a car, distance is not an issue. I did not do extensive speed testing. As long as I could stream video and music on all devices I was good. I did have issues with the system dropping the connection to the mobley which would cause all connections to drop. This would happen intermittently. Flashing to the open source openwrt might be a solution, but I wanted to keep things simple. In addition, if you are not familiar with routers and networking, setting up the system can seem daunting.

    TL-MR3040

The product looked very promising, but it has been patched with non original firmware. A password has been set for the administrator mode. But the password is unknown. So a hardware reset is needed to get into the admin mode, but the hardware reset is not working. So the product is completely unusable.

  • Received the wrong product

This TL-MR3040 was listed as a Version 1, but I was shipped the Version 2 model. Which has different firmware and hardware. I had to delete the firmware update I had downloaded and download the Version 2 firmware from So far, the unit is working as expected and has good battery life. I could not tell this is a refurbished unit. The unit and the packaging appear to factory fresh. (Exactly like the new unit purchased last year).. Best price on the web..

  • For Use with DSLR Controller App

I purchased the TL-MR3040 for use with my Canon EOS Rebel T3i to use remotely. I downloaded OpenWRT firmware for version 2 of this device from the Chainfire website and flashed the router. Plug in the router to the camera. Turn Router on and wait for the WIFI indicator LED. Turn on the camera. Connect the Android device wifi to DSLRController (password is dslrcontroller). Launch the DSLR Controller App. Should connect right away.

  • CamRanger functionality for 1/10th the price

I was a computer engineer for 25 years, so it was a simple process to convert this to a wireless tether for my Nikon camera. You can find the instruction with a Google search for qdslrdashboard. I have not used a CamRanger, but I have used the iUSBPortCamera and EyeFi. This setup seems to have a more stable connection to my iPad, and far more functionality than the iUSBPortCamera or EyeFi apps. For one-tenth the price, and a little sweat equity, it is well worth the cost.
