Great home theater system
The main reason I liked this system because it reads the most video formats that any of DVD players that I owned. At this price range this system has a good sound quality and when proper cables used, video quality is good too. It's not a substitute for the high end sound system, but just a good, inexpensive system for an average user. Speakers have its own wires, which are sufficient for about 400 sf room. In multi-channel mode, it has a good surround sound effect. Easy Plug and Play/Good Sound Quality
I purchased the system in January 2008 (report date: July 2008) and have been happy with it thus far. There have not been any problems with the system since I installed it. There is a large muffin fan behind the unit that worried me. I thought there would be some problems with overheating and early destruction. My fears have been unfounded. The sound quality is good (if not great) for an older person like me. I enjoy listening to movies (yep, listening) as the bullets whiz by from speaker to speaker. There are movies that use this surround sound effect to create voices, noise, and scare tactics behind you. This system plays those sounds very well. The portable device adapter (iPod, MP3)also plays music very well (and very loudly). My 'stereo' days are long gone and now an iPod ... Connecting the speakers to the system was very easy. Every wire was color coded. The instruction sheet was large, easy to read and written for quick, easy play. There are wires for all the speakers and that my discourage some. As this is our first home theater system, we don't mind the wires and have arranged the home decor around hiding them. The DVD player on the unit works well. The DVD holder (the little slide thing that the DVD sits on when you press the OPEN button) appears to be a little frail. I am overly concerned about someone pushing in the DVD drawer and breaking the DVD holder. Thus far, no damage, but it is not as robust as I would like. Hence, if you have children, you make want to ensure to check this part of the unit out. I purchased the unit at the big box store because the price was very competitive with some other units right in the store. I price searched various other places, but found my best price at the store. Overall, the performance of the system has been excellent. There have been no problems for the installation and operation. Using the system is easy enough. Overall, an excellent system that I would glad re-purchase.

Inexpensive Home Intertainment System
I recently bought a Sony Bravia flat screen TV and wanted a better sound system to compliment it while not having that much money in it. After researching and getting feedback at Ebay, I choose the Phillips model HTS3544 and was the high bidder, getting the unit for $106.48. The unit has excellent sound and I especially enjoy listening to the radio channels on Direct Satellite TV. The unit also permits you to listen to your MP3 player. The unit is very easy to operate and setup. Quick and easy!
Very easy set-up, the included quick set up manual was all I needed. This is my first home theater system and I'm very impressed with the quality - I cannot even take this to 1/4 of the volume because it would blow my neighbors away! It handles my cable sound / DVD sound and iTouch (iPod) sound with great quality. My only complaint is that there is very little that you can do with the box itself - you must use the remote to do most everything. So be sure not to lose the remote!Very easy set-up, the included quick set up manual was all I needed. Great System but...
This system works great. I like the up conversion for the dvds. the rear speakers sound is adjustable. System has lots of power. Also when playing games (PS3) you still can hear sound from the rear speakers (A +) The only thing that could be better is if you could manually adjust the bass and treb. This system only has programmed settings (ie action, theater, jazz)
