Most Tom Tom devices are fantastic at what they do.
I bought my Tom Tom Go 630 Traffic just a short time ago, not really long enough to be able to write a review on it. Luckily, this one was a replacement for one that was destroyed by my 3 year old grandson in "temper" mode. The deal with these Tom Tom devices is this .... They all work brilliantly and nobody should need to think twice when offered the choice of either a Tom Tom device or one of a dozen other brands that are supposed to do the same job. That's the good news. The bad news is the software that goes on to your PC to "Manage" your Tom Tom device (for all models, not just the Go 630) The software, called "Tom Tom Home" is pure pants. As an example, if you want to upgrade the maps of Western Europe to the latest map it should be a simple job to download the new map from the Tom ... I bought my Tom Tom Go 630 Traffic just a short time ago, not really long enough to be able to write a review on it. That's the good news. The bad news is the software that goes on to your PC to "Manage" your Tom Tom device (for all models, not just the Go 630) The software, called "Tom Tom Home" is pure pants. As an example, if you want to upgrade the maps of Western Europe to the latest map it should be a simple job to download the new map from the Tom Tom website to your computer, connect the Tom Tom device to the PC and let "Home" delete the old maps and replace them with the new maps. But it doesn't work like that. "Home" tries to install the new maps on to a 4 gb SD memory card which is in the slot on the base of the device. The card already holds 1.6 (or more) gb of the Tom Tom application + 1.7 (or more) gb of the older version of the maps. What "Home" tries to do is load the new maps on to the SD card without first deleting the older maps. It obviously won't fit so it throws up an error code and stops. No amount of messing about with it will make the new maps load successfully until you manually remove the old maps from the SD card and THEN load the new ones. Another medium to bad point to consider is that updates to roads can take years to appear on any maps. An example of that is that I live at number 94 but the numbers of the houses on my Ave only go up to number 8 according to the Tom Tom maps. Not so bad if the houses from 8 to 94 were built in the last year or so but we have lived here for just over 10 years. Another point in favour of Tom Tom is that planning a trip is a doddle and it is child's play to install voices, even your own, and POIs. Also, when driving, the voice directions are crystal clear. The bottom bit of the screen can look a bit cluttered at times but you can alter what goes there in the Settings. All in all, the device gets 9.5/10, mostly for the rubbish windscreen mount but the PC, or Mac, software gets only 5/10 Drive safely. Steve

Works fine on local map, real test is when we go to Florida next month, then Europe later in the year
