Stop The World I Want To Get Off- A Hit Again
I had this on LP vinyl decades ago- waited only 40 years for them to put it on CD. Great Anthony Newley songs- like; "Gonna Build a Mountain", "Once in a Liftime", and the classic "What Kind Of Fool Am I". I like his rap "Mumbo Jumbo" although to someone not alive in the early 60's the lyrics are over their head- and sound like ancient history. The sound quality of the 1962 recording is good. Stop the World I Want to Get Off--orig Broadway cast
I saw this show while in college and have always loved the music and lyrics. It includes such wonderful songs as "Gonna Build Me a Mountain" and "Once in a Lifetime." My favorite is "Someone Nice Like You" and I have been singing "Meilinki Meilchick" (Russian for little boy)to my children for years. Stop the World is a reminder to everyone that there is a cost for stepping on people on your way to the top. It's great fun along with the message. My only criticism is that this album was listed as the 1966 Lincoln Center cast, when in fact it is the original Broadway cast.I saw this show while in college and have always loved the music and lyrics. One of the greats!
An old favorite saw the movie in a jungle theater overseas and the stage version later on with my wife absolutely love it, wish we could find the film version on DVD.
