Semi-parody of Las Vegas magicians.
If you liked ZOOLANDER and BLADES OF GLORY, you will probably enjoy THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE. But unlike the other two movies, which are outrageous parodies, BURT is sort of a semi-parody. Though there are many laugh-out-loud moments, it's not so over-the-top that it couldn't actually happen --- which had me disliking Burt as an egotistical jerk who treated his partner and lifelong best friend badly for no apparent reason. As children, Burt and Anton were close, and both fascinated by magic tricks. Thirty years later, they are famous Las Vegas magicians, but Burt is stuck on himself, and stuck performing the same act year after year. It's not clear why Burt was corrupted by fame and Anton was not, nor why Anton is willing to add new tricks to the act in order to keep their job and ... It was more fun watching Anton (Steve Buscemi as a nice guy and loyal friend) and Steve Gray (Jim Carrey as a weird jerk who never pretends to be anything different)than it was watching Steve Carrell as Burt undergo inexplicable personality changes. A good, funny film, but I felt Carrell was eclipsed by his supporting actors.

The movie is pleasant. It's reasonably funny. But the one who gets the real laughs here, the hard laughs, is Carrey, who plays the kind of role he should be playing - a complete lunatic.
